TRAVEL: The Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa*

So I thought I’d share a bit about Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa where I had the absolute pleasure of staying not too long ago. Prior to booking, I read a review written by a fellow tourist who said that all was lovely except that there was a persistent lizard that would not leave his room. I will be honest, this freaked the crap out of me as I remembered that brilliant scene in ‘The Parent Trap’, where the evil step mum ended up with half a lizard sticking out of her mouth. This was absolutely NOT what I wanted on my holiday,  but apart from that everything seemed lovely so I thought I’d give it a go and boy am I glad I did.

I wasn’t sure whether to book a beach cottage or an overwater bungalow but both sounded incredible. I tend to panic about anything that floats on water because of the Titanic – yes, I’m really irrational – but an overwater bungalow in the Maldives sounded too cool to miss out on.
As soon as I arrived at the Sheraton Maldives Resort I was taken to the reception area where there is a small library with some computers which offer free internet as well as free wifi in the general area. This was such a relief for me because it meant that I could still keep connected to the outside world and my emails, though, you won’t want to bother checking Facebook because there won’t be anything as near as exciting as the place around you. My room was really nice with a really large bed, with a sofa and 2 windows on either side and a patio that led directly to the water! Everyone morning they would refill my shampoo, conditioner etc bottles which were really unique and cute.
Everything at the Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort &Spa is covered and it is absolutely safe and sound. The staff there were so friendly and welcoming which was a change from some other holiday places I’ve stayed at. Every time one of them saw me wandering around the resort they would go out of their way to say hello to me. Everything was sorted and arranged in the exact way that I had booked it and the attention to detail was immaculate.

The dishes on offer at the restaurants are the sorts of things that won’t appeal to everyone but if you’re a fan of exotic food then Sheraton Maldives is the place to go.  The lobster was my absolute favourite and I’m not even a fan of sea food! On the down side, the food was rather pricey; however, in my opinion, it was definitely worth it. The Thai restaurant or the Atoll Grill, which served themed dinners every night but be sure to check when these restaurants are open because they are not all open every day of the week.

The Maldives’ resort is so easy to get around and I went for a quick jog around the resort every morning  to wake myself up a bit. We frequently went for drinks on the beach where loads of the other visitors also go so although resort is really secluded and relaxing, it is also a great place to socialise. This visit and stay at Sheraton Full Moon made our Maldives holiday a fantastic lifetime experience.

I particularly loved how I could just wake up and go for a swim right outside my room. The water was was a beautiful turquoise blue and just the right depth. I used to sit in my geography lessons watching Blue Planet absolutely enthralled by all the beautiful fish and sea life and finally I got to see it for myself! Whilst bathing in the Maldives water I saw a reef shark swim past me a few metres away from me as well as a bunch of rays and lots of other colourful fish. I nearly had a heart attack when I saw the shark, but I had been warned beforehand and was told that they would do me no harm. You can sign up for a variety of different excursions to fill your days including snorkelling, a ferry ride, a sunset dolphin cruise, Island hopping, and sunset fishing. I thought that these activities would cost a bomb, but they were actually pretty reasonably priced and between me and my family we tried out all of them. I thought that fishing in the Maldives would be really boring, but you’re given the option of cooking the fish that you’ve caught for your own dinner which is pretty cool! The dolphin cruise was AMAZING. They warned us at the beginning that we weren’t guaranteed to see any, but we must’ve been lucky that night because saw a bunch of them and they were really close to the boat!

The Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort and Spa is definitely the sort of place to go if you’re looking for somewhere romantic. I went as a simple tourist and I still thought it was incredible but seeing all the happy couples made it clear that this was the perfect romantic getaway. The setting is absolutely superb and this was undoubtedly the best holiday I’ve ever been on.
