To be honest, I wasn't really sure what to expect of this movie. The movie poster reminds me of 300 and Troy mixed together and probably the only thing that drew me to this movie was Channing Tatum. This movie was nothing like what I expected it to be. At the beginning I thought it resembled Lord of the Rings but Romanised and then the story changed and it became about two men, a slave and his master, travelling through the dangerous area north of Hadrian's wall in order to find 'The Eagle' and restore honour to Rome and Marcus' (Tatum) family name. I think that the setting of the movie was great, I really felt like I was in the Roman age; however, one feature that really puzzled me was the 'Seal people'. This tribe seemed to be a group of men who were all African, but were painted from head to toe in white paint. I'm not too sure of the details of the Roman age; however, I am 99% sure that there weren't tribes that consisted of Africans painted white. This thing bothered me and is made it seem a lot more Pirates of the Caribbean. Another puzzling thing was the fact that the Roman's in this movie had American accents, and the Britains has (unsuprisingly) British accents. Now I know that this movie was an American-British co-production but I still believe that having British accents the entire way through would have made this movie a lot more convincing. Something about this movie also reminded me of the popular video game 'Call of Duty' as the men were all fighting and killing each other into to save a standard with an eagle on the top (this is something I have often seen my male friends spend their afternoons doing - virtually of course). I understand that that is exactly what a Roman Legion would have probably done in those days but there could have been a bit more explanation as to why it was so important. Quite a lot of the movie was also in Scottish Gaelic, with no subtitles, therefore I found it a little difficult and frustrating as I could not understand what some of the people were saying. Perhaps this was to give us a greater insight into the world of Marcus, as he was a Roman, he couldn't understand Gaellic either, but subtitles would've been much appreciated.

This movie is based on a true story (ish). It is based on the Ninth Spanish Legion's (supposed) disappearance in Britain. It is also an adaption of the novel written by Rosemary Sutcliff, 'The Eagle of the Ninth'.

Although I have been very critical of this movie, somehow I'd still recommend it. Personally, I learnt  a tiny amount of history from it, and all knowledge is useful (at some point in life.. we hope). A strong friendship/brotherhood is formed between a master and a slave shedding some positive light upon the Romans, as they did not all treat their slaves badly. There are also some recognisable faces in this movie. This is a historical adventure about finding honour and friendship along a difficult journey.

Paul.

I loved this movie, it was funny and entertaining and had me chuckling the whole way through. What makes this movie special is that for once, the alien is the cool guy, who actually seems to have a stronger grip on normal human activity than Graeme (Pegg) and Clive (Frost). This science-fiction/comedy is different because for once, the alien knows and understands earth and humans because he grew up there. The story follows Paul as he tries to make contact with his people and return home. This comedy almost mocks your usual sci-fi movie as Paul is the anti-alien. It is also quite a cute movie as there is an element of romance and of finding long-lost (and new!) friends. There are several moments where you think that one thing is going to happen, but these moments are cut short by Paul's strange habits and this keeps the comedy going. The story revolves around Graeme and Clive who visit America to go to some sci-fi conventions and visit the usual alien sites, such as Area 51. They soon meet Paul on their travels and soon becomes one big road trip to try and take Paul home, whilst on the run from government officials desperate to track Paul down after he escaped from their hold. There are some quite unexpected moments as people turn out to be somebody completely different to how you thought they would be. Perhaps what makes this movie really funny is the fact that Paul is a lot more human than he is alien. I highly recommend this movie to people of all ages and I guarantee you'll be laughing your way through this film.

I was quite excited to see this movie because with Catherine Hardwicke as the director, I expected it to be twilight-esque which is unusual for a fairytale. This movie is full of twists and turns and expect the unexpected because this movie had me gripping the edge of my seat in suspense the entire way through. The way that the traditional story of Little Red Riding Hood is incorporated into this movie is fantastic, I was a little doubtful at the start of this movie as to what relevance this movie had to the original story, but it made it all very clear later on. Not only has this movie combined a children's story with the supernatural, the big bad wolf has moved onto bigger and better things, he is now a werewolf, but there are also elements of romance in this movie. Amanda Seyfried is an incedible actress and she plays this role well. Some may find this movie a little disturbing and perhaps gory, but on the whole it is not too frightening. I was experiencing so many different emotions whilst watching this that one would think I was bipolar. Maybe I was paying enough attention, but for me, the ending was truly one of the most suprising things. The suspense is held the entire way through as we see things through the eyes of Valerie, aka Red Riding Hood, as she tries to figure out which person living in her village is the wolf.

So it's always embarassing when you're above the age of 11 and you're walking in to see the latest Disney movie, but I swallowed my pride and held my head high as I walked into the cinema screen, and it was definitely worth it! For those of you that don't know, 'Tangled' is basically a re-telling of the famous fairy tale 'Rapunzel'. There is much controversy over the title of this movie as it was originally named 'Rapunzel' (as it should have been) but Disney's other recent movie 'The Princess and the Frog' did not bring in as much revenue as expected and this was thought to be a result of the fact that the title did appeal to boys. In order to try and make this movie appeal to a wider market the movie title was changed to 'Tangled'. I think that Disney could have done a better job of creating a new title as I don't think 'Tangled' was entirely appropriate, but nonetheless this is an awesome movie.

Despite the fact that this is a Disney animation I'm sure that it'll appeal to all age groups because it is hilariously funny as well as tearjerkingly sad and romantic. This movie had me experiencing all emotions, which is quite suprising for a children's film. I didn't expect there to be much substance to this film, I just thought it would rather amusing, but I actually really enjoyed it. I didn't feel like I was watching an animation but a true story of adventure and love. This is not a silly movie where everything that happens is ridiculous. Ok, a lot of the stuff that happens is ridiculous, but it doesn't seem that way when you're watching it! Instead of thinking about the stupidity of a horse rounding up a group of people to save a man, you think of the deep friendship and connection that the horse must share with his rider.

This is such a great story of a girl with a dream who is discovering a new world around her with the help of a criminal, Flynn Ryder, who she meets along the way. Of course they fall in love and live happily ever after but I could not predict how the story was going to unfold. This movie had me thinking one thing when in actual fact something completely different was going on. It's really extraordinarily good for an animation.

Admittedly I didn't actually know the story of Rapunzel before watching this so I cannot tell you whether or not it is an accurate representation of the original story; however, I can still recommend this movie regardless of it's link to fairy tales. The music in this movie is also very good and the singing is of a very high standard. I've even downloaded the entire soundtrack to my ipod alongside artists like Rihanna and Katy Perry! (Perhaps that makes me a little sad, but that's how good I thought the songs were).

If you haven't already seen this, I highly recommend you get down to your nearest cinema asap!

I have been waiting for this movie for what literally seems like a lifetime. It's been a while since we've seen Alex Pettyfer with his last appearance in 'Tormented' in 2009, but he's back with a bang and is looking hotter than ever. I Am Number Four is the film adaption of the novel under the same title that was released in August 2010 and then spent 6 weeks on The New York Times' Best Seller List. This movie is very unexpected and not predictable. You can guess the basic story line but the more complex details take you completely by suprise. Alex Pettyfer plays the main character, John Smith or 'Number Four', who is an alien (aliens have never looked so good!) that is being hunted by other aliens from the destroyed planet of Lorien. There are eight other teenagers like John who make up the 'Garde', who are Loriens with special 'Legaices' and powers. The Garde can only be killed in a certain order and after the death of 'Number Three', John is next. After meeting Sarah at his new school, John decides to stop running despite the fact that he knows the alien race hunting him have nearly found him. It gets a little bit too 'Star Wars' for my liking at the end with all the red and blue lights being shot everywhere but nonetheless this is a great movie. It is action packed with some of the oddest themes that are woven carefully together to create an interesting story. There is action, fighting, aliens as well as teen drama - romance and bullying. One would not expect these themes to gel well together but they do in 'I Am Number Four'. I highly recommend this movie to anyone really, but in particular teenagers. For me, personally, the ending was unexpected, because I thought that it would end with your typical teen romance, but it didn't. It left you in suspense wanting to know more. As 'I Am Number Four' was the first of a series of six books hopefully we'll see the sequels brought to our screens soon.
