I've owned this book for a couple of years now but I've been putting off reading it because I thought it was just another one of those books, yknow, the paranormal romances that fed off the popularity of the Twilight Saga. It turns out that isn't one of those books and I really enjoyed reading this story. I flew through the entire book in just one evening as I was just so desperate to get to the bottom of all the mysteries entailed!

The Dark Divine is told from the point of view of Grace Divine, the teenage daughter of a Pastor. The book begins with the reappearance of Daniel, Grace's brother Jude's ex-best friend. He disappeared from the Divine family's lives around three years ago after an incident with Jude which involved Jude coming home hurt and covered in a lot of blood. Ever since then, Daniel's name has become a sort of taboo in the Divine family household but Grace, who always had a crush on Daniel as they were growing up, still misses him. When he arrives back in town, he's sporting a new hair style and colour, but most of all a new attitude. Daniel smells like trouble and Jude warns Grace to stay away from him, but despite all the warnings, she's still drawn to him. Mysterious things start happening in their town with babies going missing, pets turning up dead and bodies being found with huge gashes on them. Grace isn't sure who she can and cannot trust, all she knows is that strange things have been happening since Daniel got back and that her attraction to him may lead her into danger.

Now you're probably thinking that you already know this story and that you've read it countless times before, but trust me, you haven't. I'm guessing that from reading the synopsis you think that you've got a pretty good idea of what's going on but this novel is full of plot twists and continually surprised me right until the very end. This book is not predictable in the slightest and when everything comes to light at the end of the novel you'll kick yourself for not thinking about alternative explanations for this book's happenings. This book could definitely be classified as a mystery as there are lots of loose ends left along the way as this story unfolds that aren't cleared up until the very end.

My opinion of the lead characters changed dramatically over the course of the book as different snippets of information were revealed and nothing and nobody are as they seem. One of the things that bothered me was that when paranormal aspects of the plot were revealed, characters didn't seem all that shocked by it, particularly Grace. When Grace finds out that paranormal creatures do in fact exist, she isn't fazed at all and life goes on as normal. The naivety of her character is extremely annoying at the beginning but she realises her mistake and she grows on you for the rest of the novel. These characters feel quite 'real' compared to those that I have read about in other novels. Despite the fact that Grace is the daughter of a pastor and her family are kinder and more generous than most, none of them are perfect. The characters all still experience doubt and fear, all those emotions that make you seem more human.

I'm a bit torn as to whether or not I'd call the relationship between Grace and Daniel a case of 'instalove'. They've technically known each other since they were very, very young children, but they've never been anything but friends, and yet after Daniel's three year absence, she's in love with him. This is a little perplexing though not entirely unrealistic, I just wish that the author had included even more snippets from their past so that their relationship would be more believable. That said, I did really enjoy the romantic aspects of this novel and there are several quotes in which the author has captured the mind of a teenage girl so perfectly.

Something that was a bit strange was that there were sort of subheadings within each chapter telling you what time of day it was or where the action was located, but these really weren't needed and interrupted the flow of the action. I learnt to ignore these as I read the novel because they weren't helpful and I didn't need them to understand what was going on and I really wish that they had just not been included.

Bree Despain has a fairly new take on paranormal romance. It's not entirely unique; however, it was unique enough for it not to remind me of another novel and for it not to bore me so I guess it's a success. This book could be read as either a stand-alone book or as part of series. The ending of The Dark Divine has definitely left itself open for another book, but if you've had enough of Daniel and Grace then it's just as good a place to finish. This book isn't that fast paced and a lot of the action doesn't take place until the very end, but the story still holds your attention until this point and it's well worth the wait. When I started reading this book I was convinced that I knew what was going on but I could've have been more wrong. I was pleasantly surprised by this book and it's definitely one of the better YA paranormal romances that I've read.

I think what's great about this book is that it isn't your typical high school romance. This isn't a story about "opposites attract", but rather the interesting development of a relationship between two very different characters that somehow complement each other. These characters are not perfect, they are flawed individually and as a couple; they argue lots and sometimes Eleanor/Park really annoyed me (REALLY annoyed me), but I liked this about Eleanor & Park because it made the characters seem more real and alive. This novel isn't sappy in the slightest, and if it is, then a character acknowledges the sappiness of the situation, which again, makes these characters seem real; they are definitely not characters living in a world of make believe. It is probably Eleanor's difficult home life which keeps this story grounded as she comes from a difficult background. She has a large family and is often picked on at school but her attitude towards these things seem more realistic as she is sometimes brave, but not always, she is sometimes selfish, but recognises this, though acknowledges that guilt doesn't make her feel any different. There is just something so raw and truthful about the everything that goes through these two teenagers mind.

What I found rather strange and hard to get my head around was the fact that this book was written in a dual narrative but in the third person. This was a fascinating way of getting right into Eleanor and Park's head, but also giving the reader enough distance so that there was an air of mystery around what each character was thinking at every second. It was especially fascinating reading the different POVs of these two characters as they are wildly different, and yet at one. You can see that there are vast differences in the way that these characters think and feel and it's sort of like the reader is keeping secrets for both Eleanor and Park which you cannot reveal to the other person. I was rather touched by this novel on a personal level even though I can't really relate to any of the content, simply because the narrative is so full of real emotions which seem truthful and heartfelt.

I have to say that I don't think I was quite as enamored by this book as the rest of it's readers. Sure, Eleanor & Park is a fantastic novel and it is awfully cute/heartbreaking but I wouldn't peg it as a five star read as many before me have. I think the thing that bothered me the most about this book is the lack of plot. Although this was a very nice snippet from the teenage years of Eleanor and Park, I felt that perhaps this snippet was directionless and didn't really have a plot that built up. I would say that this book simply follows the relationship of Eleanor and Park from the very beginning, but everything is a bit up in the air at the end, which may appeal to some, but for me it just seemed like the story was missing another chapter. I'd say that this story is much more about the thoughts and feelings of these two characters and not on any sort of event that happens in either one of their lives.

All in all, this a great novel, though perhaps a little more style than substance. The writing is superb and highly addictive so you will no doubt be drawn in and unable to put this book down; however, don't bother waiting for some sort of major event to 'happen' because it's not going to. That's probably the only downside to this book as it really is very well written and a pleasure to read.

So I thought it was finally time for me to start tackling my massive ebook TBE pile, starting with The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden. Ordinarily I don't purchase ebooks, I simply download free books and buy the paperback edition of those that cost money, but I bought this book immediately, without any hesitation, after reading a review of it. It's been a whole aince I purchased it and I've been putting off reading it for some unknown reason, but I could kick myself for doing so because it was absolutely phenomenal!

This book is about two college freshmen, Callie and Kayden, who both come from the same town and used to attend high school together, though they were never friends. Both of them have hidden traumas that they can't and won't talk about but Callie is a social recluse and Kayden is the boy with the football scholarship. Four months before they start unviersity, Callie goes to pick up her older brother from a party at Kayden's house, where she sees Kayden and his father having an argument that results in Kayden's Dad violently beating him. Callie doesn't like talking to anybody, she doesn't have friends and she hates social interaction but not wanting to see Kayden being beaten to a pulp, she steps in and stops his father. After making sure that Kayden will be alright, Callie leaves with her brother and she goes off to university two days later. The story then jumps back to the present, when university is just starting and Kayden runs (literally) into Callie. At first he doesn't recognise her but when he realises who she is, he's determined to thank her properly for saving his life four months ago. Callie, on the other hand, is less than keen to make new friends as still is still dealing with issues from her past but coincidence seems to throw them together. I can't really say any more than that right now without revealing spoilers, because you find out more and more details about each characters' past as the story unfolds.

The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden is written from two narrative perspectives which alternate. Sometimes these sorts of stories bother me because one side of the story makes it pretty darn obvious what's going on in the other side, but that wasn't the case with this book. As both Callie and Kayden are hiding something, the double narrative is essential to the plot, otherwise we would have absolutely no idea what was going on.  There was just something about this book that felt really real. Obviously, I'm not a boy, but when I was reading Kayden's thoughts I felt like they were pretty authentic boy-thoughts. Whilst he was clearly emotionally damaged and even romantic at times, you could also see that he spent quite a lot of time thinking with his c*ck and not with his brain. This wasn't really a bad thing as Jessica Soresen has written this book in such a way so that you still fall head over heels for Kayden, despite his flaws. I feel that a lot of young adult books give teenagers completely unrealistic expectations of romance and boys and I'm not saying that this book is particularly realistic either, but the characterisation of Callie and Kayden felt pretty damn close to how I would act if I were in either of their situations, so at the very least this book is one step ahead of all the other young adult romances.

Both of the teenagers in this book are dealing with some pretty serious stuff and I felt that they were both addressed really well. Jessica Sorensen doesn't dwell too much on the past, but more how these past events are affecting Callie and Kayden in the present which was much more interesting. If you're not a fan of books that are a bit 'deep', so to speak, then this probably isn't for you. There is also some mature content in this book which I thought was really well written. It's quite hard to get steamy scenes right without being too crude or unrealistic or just downright unnecessary but Jessica Sorensen integrated these scenes perfectly into the general flow of the book and they do actually serve a purpose to the plot.

All the reviews that I'd read of this commented on the cliffhanger ending and how it ruined everything for them, but I didn't feel this way. Yes, it was shocking, but I don't think it ruined the book more than any other shocking cliffhanger would. I suppose the effect of it was slightly lessened given that I knew something was coming but I still didn't find it all that shocking. It is quite annoying that we're not going to find out what happens next for a while but I'm pretty sure that the next book will be even better so there's nothing to worry about.

It's been a very long time since I've read a book that's given me that tingling sensation all over, but this book definitely did. I read the entire book in one sitting and I absolutely could not put it down. There are so many ups and downs and it really was an emotional roller-coaster. This is probably one of the best young adult books I've ever read and I'll definitely be recommending it to everyone, even adults.

Circle of Lies (Red Ridge Pack #2) by Staci Weber & Sara Dailey.

Circle of lies is pretty similar to Pack of lies, the first book, except this time the main focus is Aiden, Alli's brother. At the end of Circle of lies, We found out that Aiden is actually Marcus' son which just makes everything more complicated because Aiden's half sister, Alli, is mated to his (new) half brother, Cade. Talk about incestuous. Anyways, that's not really the focal point of this story. Circle of lies revolves around Aiden and the human girl, Teagan, who we saw a bit of in book one. The love story is really similar to book one in that this is a pair that shouldn't be together, but because of their undeniable chemistry they have no choice. It was a little too similar to the fort book for my liking and had there not been another dimension o the story, I would've complained about this repetitiveness. In this book, we are introduced to a new character, Peter, a human who seems to be clued up on werewolves and how to identify them. Peter befriends Teagan's drunken father and at the climax of this story the two plot strands collide.

I was a little surprised to find that Alli and Cade weren't the focus of this novel, but I actually think that this was a good thing. It was really refreshing to see the old story revamped from the perspective of different characters and I enjoyed getting to know Teagan, Aiden and Peter through their thoughts. As far as I can remember, these are the only three perspectives that we see, but they're the only three we really need in this story. I much preferred Teagan and Aiden's perspectives to Alli and Cade's though I can't really pinpoint why. Although there was also a sort of 'insta-love' between this new pair, their relationship was developed a lot better and there was a build up before they jumped into a relationship. Even though insta-love really bothers me, I accepted it in this novel because there was a sense of real chemistry between the pair. I liked that this story wasn't entirely focused on their relationship, but there were also details about Teagan's home life and the pack. The new guy Peter does sort of appear out of the blue and I feel that his background could've been developed a lot more but he did bring some drama to this novel. This novel ends on cliffhanger so I'm excited for book three and I'm wondering if its going to come from a new perspective.

I still can't figure out why the titles of this books in this series are called 'Pack of Lies' and 'Circle of Lies' because I don't think lying is a particularly major part of these stories but oh well. This was an excellent book that I flew through in one sitting and despite it's similarities to book one of this series I still greatly enjoyed it.

I think I've been subconsciously hyping this book up in my head for years so when I finally got round to reading it, I was a little disappointed. It took me quite a while to get into this book and I read it awfully slowly , but in the end it was worth it. Also, although the title is really quite clever, I'm still not sure what relevance it had.

Cammie isn't your typical 15 year old girl. She's grown up in an all girls boarding school, that her mother just so happens to be the headmistress of, and she doesn't really get much time to experience life outside of the school grounds unless if she's visiting her Dad's family on their ranch. That's not the only thing slightly odd about her upbringing, Gallagher Academy isn't just any boarding school, it's a school for spies (though, of course, nobody will admit it). All the girls who attend Gallagher Academy have extraordinary IQs, can speak multiple languages and probably know a hundred or so different methods to kill a man but none of them know how to talk to boys. In fact, most of them probably haven't ever interacted with boys. One day whilst on an outing as part of her Cove Ops class, she bumps into a boy, Josh, who really shouldn't have seen her at all given that she was undercover, and suddenly Cammie's life is way more interesting than it ever was before. Cammie starts using her spy skills to sneak out to see this boy doing normal every day things like going to the cinema, that are just so alien to Cammie and her school mates. This is a whole new learning experience for Cammie and her friends who really don't know anything about how to be normal, but they've got to make sure she doesn't get caught...

As Cammie has been brought up as a spy in training she's incredibly intelligent but doesn't have a clue about boys which just goes to show that no matter how old you are or how clever you are, girls are never going to figure out how the mind of the opposite sex works. Weirdly enough, I think that Cammie and I are fairly similar and I think that's why I loved this book. In case you're now thinking that I, too, am a spy a training, don't be silly. I do; however, go to an all girls schools, full of incredibly intelligent students who know lots about everything, apart from boys. When I go out with boys, I lie to my parents and get my friends to cover for me and last of all, I have no idea how to be normal. I don't particularly like reading books about characters that are too many years younger than me because I find their naivety a bit irritating but I could relate to a lot of the things that Cammie was going through (was having a bit of a boy crisis myself whilst reading this). This book is written from Cammie's perspective so you see everything first hand and it's rather funny reading all the thoughts that go through Cammie's brain.

I didn't find Cammie's relationship with Josh all that interesting because I don't think we got enough details about his character and I enjoyed this book because of Cammie herself, not because of the plot or anything. If you're looking for a really good teen romance, then this wouldn't be my first choice, but the love aspect of this novel certainly brings hilarity to this story. I'd say this book was more of  a coming-of-age (or coming-of-normal) book rather than a teen romance but maybe we'll see more of Cammie and Josh's relationship in the subsequent books. I'm not sure that all that happened in this book in terms of plot and to be honest I don't think the story-line was that strong, but with Cammie's character, it was enough to carry me through to the end so it wasn't all that bad.

All in all, this was a really good book, but it wasn't as great as I imagined it would be. It'll probably appeal to people in their mid teens as the main character is 15 years old and seems to be having a typical 15 year old crisis but maybe those of you who still haven't figured out how to be 'normal' will find this interesting too. This book made me laugh out loud at some points and I guarantee you'll fall in love with Cammie's character. I actually found a lot of the advice given in this book or reading about the situations Cammie found herself in to be really helpful. It's not like a life guide for teenagers or anything like that, but it's full of relateable incidences that most people will enjoy reading about. Although the first book was good, I am wondering what the heck Ally Carter could've possibly filled another four books with. I guess I'll have to read them to find out, but I hope this series doesn't fizzle out like so many other YA series I've read!

Werewolf books are not my favourite but for some reason this one caught my interest. Pack of Lies is about a brother and sister who start experiencing strange changes in their bodies. When Alli starts getting into trouble at school, their mother decides to tell them why their emotions are all over the place: they are teenage werewolves. Suffice to say, it's not an easy situation to be in so the parents decide to move the family away from Houston and back to the wolf pack they deserted years and years ago. For Alli this is a welcome change because she's lost all her friends in Houston to jealousy and she's hoping her new were-friends will accept her. However, there are some complications, namely Cade, soon to be alpha who already has a girlfriend, Kendall, a class-A bitch who won't let newcomer Alli come between her and the title of alpha-female.

I'm not really sure why it's called Pack of Lies because there wasn't that much emphasis on lying in my opinion, though I do like the pun on the word 'pack'. Pack of Lies is written from the point of view of Alli, Kendall and Cade, but mostly Alli. Each of them is interesting in different ways but personally I found Kendall's to be the most interesting because you get a look into her home life and Cade and Alli's relationship from a distance. She might be a pain in the arse but you do feel some sense of sympathy for her because it's clear her mother has influenced her to be the way she is.

The best way for me to describe my feelings as I went through this book would be to compare them to a heart rate monitor you find in hospitals. It's going up and down and up and down at the beginning, but then it goes completely flat and doesn't really pick up again. The only reason I'd say this is because it started off really great, but when they find out their mum is a werewolf it's the stupidest passage ever. It was a great start to a book and then it was ruined by this moment. I didn't think the situation was explained all that well or that the characters handled this piece of news in the right way. After this it started to get really good again and I thought Cade and Alli's first meeting was brilliant. It made me smile and gave me a slight tingling sensation like a good romance should. The next low was when there was a 3 week gap where supposedly Cade and Alli continue sneaking around together but we never find out what they were doing in this gap. Were they just making out or did they actually connect on another level? I'm assuming a bit of both but because it wasn't written down I found it difficult to genuinely believe in their 'love'. The book is basically all about Cade and Alli so rest of the book was pretty stagnant in that I didn't feel anything more than a superficial affection between the pair. I disliked that there wasn't much more to this story apart from the main relationship as I think it could've been a lot better if the stories of more characters were explored. There is a 'climax' to the plot I suppose but Cade and Alli's relationship is at the heart of this too. The ending happened too fast for my liking and again, I felt that things weren't developed. There weren't a lot of plot twists but they were glanced over and written in little detail.

That all probably sounds pretty negative, but this was actually a really good book. I would've given this book four stars were it not for the instalove between Cade and Alli. This book had the potential to be brilliant but I felt that some plot strands weren't developed as much as they could've been.
