Waiting on Wednesday: Panic by Lauren Oliver
Waiting on Wednesday #31.
"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
Title: Panic
Author: Lauren Oliver
Genre: Young Adult
Publication Date: 4th March 2014
Publisher: HarperCollins
Goodreads Summary: Panic began as so many things do in Carp, a dead-end town of 12,000 people in the middle of nowhere: because it was summer, and there was nothing else to do.
Heather never thought she would compete in Panic, a legendary game played by graduating seniors, where the stakes are high and the payoff is even higher. She’d never thought of herself as fearless, the kind of person who would fight to stand out. But when she finds something, and someone, to fight for, she will discover that she is braver than she ever thought.
Dodge has never been afraid of Panic. His secret will fuel him, and get him all the way through the game, he’s sure of it. But what he doesn't know is that he’s not the only one with a secret. Everyone has something to play for.
For Heather and Dodge, the game will bring new alliances, unexpected revelations, and the possibility of first love for each of them—and the knowledge that sometimes the very things we fear are those we need the most.

(I know this technically came out yesterday, but I'm still waiting on a copy so it still counts as my WoW ;) )
So the synopsis of Panic doesn't give away much, but it seems as though this will be a book very similar to The Hunger Games. Although I own a couple of Lauren Oliver's books, I haven't actually read any of them so I'm not sure whether I'll like her books but just about everyone that reads them seems to enjoy them so I suspect they're all good books. I hope Panic turns out to be a good read that is unique and not just a copy of some other dystopian novel that's already been released but we shall see!

ReplyDeleteI hope you get it soon!
Ahh I still need to order it! Look forward to reading your review :)
DeleteGreat pick, I chose this one last week! I've heard good things, but from what I undestand from reviews, this book isn't so much dystopian as contemporary, so I don't know how much it resembles The Hunger Games. But it can be great regardless! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHmm the more I find out about this novel the less I think I'll like it. I've read some mixed reviews and it seems as if it hasn't lived up to the hype which is disappointing! Thanks for stopping by :)
DeleteI just finished it, you can read my review HERE. It's not dystopian at all. It is a good book nonetheless. Check out my WOW.
ReplyDeleteHmm not so excited about Panic after reading your review! Great review anyhow :) Thanks for stopping by!
