BOOK REVIEW: I've Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella.

I've Got Your Number is written from the perspective of Poppy Wyatt who loses her engagement ring a week before her wedding. Soon afterwards, she gets mugged  meaning she now has no phone for people to call should they find her ring. Luckily, she soon sees a working phone that someone has hastily thrust into the bin and she claims it as her own. She hands out this new number to all the people working at the hotel where she lost her ring, but the problem is, it's a company phone and it belonged to the PA of one, Sam Roxton, hot shot business man. Sam, understandably, wants the phone back so he can give it to his new PA as all his important emails are still being forwarded to that phone, but a desperate Poppy manages to persuade him to let her keep it for a week until her ring turns up as long as she promises to forward everything related to Sam's work to his phone. Poppy can't resist reading a couple of Sam's emails as she forwards them on and she starts to get a little too involved in his life. Meanwhile, Poppy is having issues with her fiance's uber academic family and can't bring herself to tell them about the ring. Both Poppy and Sam help each other out with the major crises going on in their lives but things get very complicated, very quickly. 

I really liked the general story of this book. Given that we live in an age where technology plays an ever increasing role in society I thought that it was particularly relevant to modern times which made it even easier to relate to. I have a lot of friends who I don't see in person a lot or who I've developed relationships with via fbk/texting rather than real life interaction and I've always wondered if this was weird or not and whether or not we were 'real' friends even though we don't communicate in the 'real' world. This book addresses those sorts of issues as Poppy and Sam develop their relationship via texting and the occassional run-in. This story also highlights the dependence that we have on our mobile phones as Poppy's world basically collapses around her after she gets mugged. By stalking the emails on Sam's PA's phone, Poppy is able to find out a lot about Sam's character and general life which also just how much of a presence we now have online, which was fascinating.

I really liked both characters Poppy and Sam. The book is all written from the point of view of Poppy but Sam isn't that hard a character to understand so everything was really clearly written. Poppy is quite a nosy character and Sam is a very private person so the two of them together is absolutely hilarious and there were many moments when I actually laughed out loud. Both characters are really lovable despite their numerous flaws and they just seemed really human to me. Although this story doesn't span over that much time, this wasn't another insta-love story. This is one of those stories where love just creeps up on you when you're least expecting it and not at the most convenient time either. I had butterflies in my stomach for a lot of the latter part of the novel and Kinsella teases you by letting you think that something's about to happen and then ripping it away from you which made me so eager to read more.

There are some plot twists towards the end of the novel which were still rather shocking despite the fact that it was clear what the eventual ending to this novel would be. What was particularly unique was the way that the story unfolded because I had absolutely no idea how this story was going to develop given that both the primary characters seemed to be in relationships at the beginning of the novel.

I would thoroughly recommend I've Got Your Number to any fans of Sophie Kinsella (author of Confessions of a Shopaholic) or chick-lit as this is an excellent read that's really quick to get through and really tugs your heart strings!
